During 1970 Saab evaluated several different fighter project. The most known is Saab B3LA, Light Attack project with the purpose to replace A37 Viggen. It should be in both one and two seater configuration. The purpose was to operate out of small roads in the Swedish country side and be hidden in the terrain.The project was valid during 1976-1979. A full scale mockup was build and is preserved at the Draken Österlen museet. If the project was fulfilled the designation in the Swedish Air Force A38. The project was cancelled and replaced by JAS 39 Gripen.
